With over 25 years’ experience in commercial archaeology, Simon has been a Senior Project Officer since 2012. He has well-tested and far-reaching archaeological and people-management skills, allied with a broad understanding of current policy and guidance relating to commercial archaeology. Simon has worked for some of the leading commercial archaeological companies within the UK and has worked on over 300 archaeological sites. He has led many major excavations, predominantly in the West and South of England, including urban and rural excavations across the UK, as well as the large-scale Hemerdon project on the southwestern edge of Dartmoor.
Simon has extensive experience in leading large teams of staff and large-scale complex, multi-phased excavations, watching briefs and evaluations. This experience has equipped him with the forward thinking and social skills required for liaising with developers, clients, contractors, curatorial archaeologists, statutory bodies, landowners, consultants, specialists, volunteers, students, and members of the public, both on site and within an office environment.
In addition to his skills in practical fieldwork, Simon has a proven track-record in producing updated project designs/assessments, final client reports and publication texts. All of these require the ability to synthesise the work of specialists. He has also given numerous lectures at archaeological symposiums and day schools and to historical groups.

After graduating from Exeter University in 2007 with a degree in Archaeology, Tim worked as a field archaeologist in the Peruvian city of Lima, specialising in the pre-Incan Wari and Lima cultures. He returned to Exeter University in 2017 to study for an MA in archaeology, receiving a Dean’s Commendation for his thesis on application of spatial data derived from LiDAR remote sensing to the study of Roman frontiers. Tim spent two digging seasons as supervisor at the Exeter University Ipplepen project where he was responsible for teaching undergraduate students. Since 2018, Tim has worked in a hybrid role as a field archaeologist, heritage consultant and archaeological illustrator. He is adept at conducting Desk-Based Assessments concerning infrastructure, housing and green energy projects (wind and solar farms). These assessments required the use of a range of techniques to investigate potential archaeological and heritage issues affecting each site’s development.
